Texas A&M Football Player from Jacksonville Killed in Truck Accident

Friday, January 6th, 2012

A senior at Texas A&M from Jacksonville died after a car accident on December 22, according to JacksonvilleProgress.com. Joseph Villavisencio, 22, was a senior on the Texas A&M football team. He was driving in Texas when he swerved to avoid a buzzard and collided head-on with a semi-truck.

“The driver over-corrected, causing him to cross into the southbound lane,” said the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was on his way home to Jacksonville. He has spent the day with the team delivering gifts to families at a local shelter after a morning football practice.

“Joey always had a smile on his face and had such a positive influence on everyone,” said Texas A&M Athletic Director Bull Byrne. “This is a sad day for Texas A&M and our hearts are broken for his family, his teammates and his friends.”

Vallavisencio was a radiological health engineer major. His loss is deeply felt in both the Jacksonville and Texas A&M communities.

“Although his life on this Earth was way too short, his impact on the people he met will be everlasting,” said Aggies Head Coach Mike Sherman. “I will never forget him.”

Son Of PGA Golfer Nearly Killed In Florida Truck Accident

Monday, December 12th, 2011

27-year-old Devon Quigley, son of PGA golfer Dana Quigley, remains in critical condition following a truck accident, according to sources. Quigley was returning from a birthday party when his BMW collided with a semi truck and he suffered serious injuries.

“The doctors here didn’t think Devon was going to make it through the first night because his brain injuries were so severe,” said Dana. “Here it is, five days later, and we’re still just trying to keep him alive.”

Devon suffered severe brain injuries that he may never fully recover from. He is currently in a medically-induced coma.

“The police officer told us it was bad, very bad,” said Dana. “He said, ‘I hate to do this, but we need someone to ID to make sure this is your son.’ When I went over there, his face was so swollen, I couldn’t even tell if it was my own son.”
